New Connecting Rod Bearing.
Original Cummins Topic Number: 06t1-6.
This Technical Service Bulletin introduces new connecting rod bearings for B Series Engines.
NOTE: This is a product improvement and not subject to campaign.
With the introduction of the new 4.5 liter and 6.7 liter (4 valve per cylinder) engines, a new connecting rod bearing is required for durability. The new connecting rod bearing is made in a bi-metal design, rather than the previous tri-metal design used in previous B series engines.
The tri-metal connecting rod bearing design is obsoleted and superceded by the new bi-metal design connecting rod bearing.
For 4.5 liter and 6.7 liter (4 valve per cylinder) engines, bi-metal bearings must be used when completing a repair.
For all other engines, continue to replace like parts for like parts. If bi-metal bearings are available, they can be used in place of the tri-metal bearings.
